Hi mapperos!

This is the list of the musician availables:
(Some of the musician maybe are already included in the program of some venues. My advise is JUST TRY, SEND THEM AN EMAIL directly)

1- Ben Thompson ben.thompson.j@gmail.com

I play electronic music live using my laptop and software. It borders on experimental but is dance music and it would be fun to get a little dance party going. Also if there is anyone who would want to collaborate and do some visuals that would be really cool too. The idea would be to play for an hour or so and create a fun musical environment where people can come a dance, listen to new music, and meet new people. Ultimately have a good time. You can check stuff out www.alfredfredo.com Cool and Thanks!

2- Shadows on the Water steve.garcia@exel.com

Experimental rock ensemble with influences from many different genres.

3- Tony Kiser predidjitall@sbcglobal.net

I am a solo didjeridu artist. I play didj on an acoustic level as well as amplified. I incorperate a digital effects pedal in my music. I am a very percusive player but also able to create some very interesting dynamics in ambient spaces with the use of effects. I work with and colaberate with world drummers and guitarists. I also perform with a few singer song writers so I would also be able to come as a collective of artists as well I belong to a belly dance troupe as a musician so could possibly perform on that level also. I have a my space where a few examples of my music can be heard also a brief bio as well as pictures of some of my performances can be viewed. I would be more than happy to perform in any of the venues you have available.

4- Jean Claude jcrhi@yahoo.com

All Love Production will play passionate Indeginous Music from his tribe back home.

5- Vanessa Valencia vdvmusx@att.net

Smooth and easy to listen, calm and collective, acoustic, with deep lyrics, and lots of soul!

6- Sandra Dolores Swanfeldt sandradolores27@gmail.com

I am solo acoustic guitar, folk/pop. Depending on how much time I have to prepare, and which date I would be performing, I can bring in another player to sit in with me. But I can also play solo acoustic. Either way I can support my own sound, but if there is a sound system already set up, that would be helpful. I can go either way. I have my own equipment.

7- leaf Tine leaf@baymoon.com

Softly Spoken, a participatory ritual incorporating new media, video, soundscape, and performance. Two main artists and as many participants as choose to join. Features a an interactive video feedback loop filtered via computer. The show in its entirety is described in "Contextualizing "Softly Spoken" at www.leaftine.com I will only need space and electricity. I have all other equipment. I do however request that I be able to darken the space to near or total darkness.

If any of the artist that I cited have venue or are not planning to participate in the next MAPP (October 3), let me know.

At last, remember that tomorrow we have a meeting at David's house (2754 Harrison btwn 23rd and 24th., San Francisco, CA) at 7pm.
The head of the next meeting will be Kaoru and George. Please remember to submit your proposal (even if is not so much detailed) at this link:

Radio Program/ What we understand as MAPP/ Next meeting

Yesterday David Kubrick and Ytaelena were on KPFA 94.1 FM talking about the magic of MAPP (Mission Arts & Performing Project). They will post the audio file at:
http://kpfa.org/archive/show/15

However, the MAPP is very rich and has plenty of talent (like N.I.C.E. project, Sunrise Project, The Box, Garofaloop, etc...).
For that reason Radio 2050, the show on KPFA, probably will do another program, closer to the day of the event. New voices will be required in the name of MAPP. When I have more info I will post it.

2- In the meantime, I want to ask you something:

"What is it we understand as the MAPP?"

The question was posed by Todd Brown (Red Poppy Art House), in order to initiate a conversation that can enrich the soul of this beautiful community project.

We are eager to hear your answer!
(You can submit your answer by mail :) )

3- At last, remember that every Monday (with exceptions) we have a meeting at David's house (2754 Harrison btwn 23rd and 24th., San Francisco, CA) at 7pm.
The head of the next meeting will be Kaoru and George. Please remember to submit your proposal (even if is not so much detailed) at this link:
http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&formkey=clhpRlZjSnZKYWJnQ2xWUUktYlY3RkE6MA..

Art vs. Crime: How the Mission's artists are helping neighbors feel safe after episodes of lethal violence (video)

This history was filmed by Cassidy and appeared at SANFRANCISCO I AM
Discussions of the dichotomous nature of the Mission approach tedium, with shootings in front of valet stands, or the whole delicate flower thing creating enough dramatic tension to launch a thousand newspaper columns. The organizers of the Mission Arts Performance Project (MAPP) aren't content to just wring their hands: they're doing what they can to boost the Mission's thriving arts community while acknowledging its more challenging sides with their bi-monthly, multidisciplinary, intercultural event night.Connecting visual artists, musicians, poets, dancers and poets, MAPP weaves together storefronts, warehouses, studios and homes to form an art walk that seems to turn into a huge multi-block party. Homeowners lay down stages in their living rooms, scraggly artists gussy up and serve hors d'oeuvres. The night of Saturday April 4, MAPP held its bi-monthly multidisciplinary, intercultural event night. Connecting visual artists, musicians, poets, dancers and poets,

Thank you, Cassidy!

Use the hashtag #MAPPmission in your twitter, flickr, blog and FB status!

Hi MAPPEROS,

The day finally arrives, yeah!

Unfortunately, we finished the design of the printed program Wednesday night, and few people could not be in.
Thankfully, we live in a Internet era, and most of the people can get the information by Internet.

You can find the latest MAPP program here:

http://mappmission.blogspot.com/

As you know, the nature of the Web is colaborative, like the MAPP. For that reason I am asking you to help us to document all that happen this night during MAPP.

Tagging helps to organize and share our online information with others. By attaching one or more keywords to a Flickr photograph, for example, we group it together with others that have the same tag. Hashtags serve a similar purpose on Twitter, the social micro-blogging service. The aim is to bring some order to Twitter users' published updates ("tweets") and make it easier to follow a topic of interest. And you don't necessarily have to be a Twitter user to get a benefit from hashtags.

1- If you have a blog (blogger, wordpress, etc), use one of the folllowing tag in your post: MAPP, Mission Arts and Performing Project, #MAPPmission
Also, remember to link the post to our blog http://mappmission.blogspot.com/

2- If you have pictures online, use the folllowing tag in your post: MAPP, Mission Arts & Performing Project, #MAPPmission
Also, you can join the MAPP group on Flickr:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/mapp/

3-If you have a twitter account, use the hashtag #MAPPmission in your tweets.

4- You can use the hashtag #MAPPmission in your status, also.

Thank you very much for your participation!

"Deliberate Motion: Video Instillations by Mike Missiaen"
Mike Missiaen is a local artist who works with video and film. For this
exhibition he has gathered together three of his video instillations.
These works are varied and address different themes. One piece examines
the anxiety induced by dealing with bureaucracy. Another looks at the
inertia in our daily routines. The last appraises the beauty and grace
of falling objects. The elements that link these disparate pieces are
the use of carefully staged shots and slow motion to illuminate
overlooked moments.

People without locations... yet

Dear mapperos,

This is some of the people that does not have venues yet:

- Valentina Vitols
"My proposal is to feature 8 Seattle-based artists (1 or 2 pieces per artist) with pieces that won't be larger than 8 inches on one or both of the sides of the piece. The show would be called Seattle in San Francisco 8x8. The idea is have as different media as possible, including painting, sculpture, music (8 seconds or 8 minutes), photography and video.
I already have two artists from Seattle that would be ideal for this show (Chris Crites and Diana Falchuk). Once the project gets the green light by the MAPPEROS, I would immediately post the call for entries in several publications related to the art scene here in Seattle at no cost.
Note than some (if not most) of the pieces will need to be hanged, so hammer and nails are going to be necessary. This means that the venue has to be all right with this."
    She already have some artists:
   1. Chris Crites (http://www.bagpainter.com/)
   2. Diana Falchuk (http://www.dianafalchuk.com/sculptures.shtml)
   3. John Sarkis (http://www.museo.cc/2009/Feb/jsarkis.html)
   4. Zimmermann Studio (http://www.flickr.com/photos/zimmermannstudio/sets/72157594251212778/)
   5. Shaun Kardinal (http://www.flickr.com/photos/shauniqua/sets/72157604525132850/)
She will need wall for to hang the art.

- Kara Andrade
"I would like to do an installation of this project I coordinated at UC Berkeley:
http://newsinitiative.org/ucb/we-faith/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/karaandrade/sets/72157613816719850/
The project, developed at the News 21 site at the University of California Graduate School of Journalism, Berkeley is part of the fellowship's 2007 program focusing on "God, Sex and Family." That's where choices about marriage, dating, the building of community, family and faith play out in private life. To see the stories as they unfold over the next three weeks, go to www.newsinitiative.org/ucb or go to Second Life to see them streamed into different tents created to look and feel like a church revival.
The final event was a panel discussion on Sunday, July 29 from 12-1:30 PM PST held inworld and broadcast live through SLCN, the Second Life Cable Network. Religion writer and News21 Senior Editor Don Lattin moderated. Panelists include SL worshipers, spiritual leaders, and theologians. For more information contact Kara Andrade: kara.andrade [at] yahoo [dot] com, 510-384-0788 or inworld under KaraAndrade Writer."

ORIGIN OF THE MAPP

In October 2003, a meeting of artist and performers was called together at the Red Poppy Art House (then called Porfilio Is) to discuss the possibility of a monthly alternative multi-venue neighborhood arts & performance event. That meeting was the spark that caught to flame, the beginning of the “Mission Arts Party”, a name coined in this first meeting, inspired by Adrian Arias’s idea to paint a mural “map of emotions” on the Art House wall. Two months later the first MAP took place with four exhibit spaces; one garage curated by Luis Vasquez Gomez and Koch, and three other spaces; the Art House, Musa Alda’s Little Spot Café (the basement), and Musa’s garage, curated by visual artists Veronica Blanco and Todd Brown, and with the help of Martin Arslanian. With no budget and just basic flyering for promotion, the event was a great success. The MAP quickly doubled its size when, the following month, the Mission Cultural Center opened its doors to co-host a MAP exhibition in their main gallery. Also added to the MAP was the local AutoTech Garage, curated by Danny Stuepenagel. (complete with a salsa band with cars on lifts towering above).

From that time the MAP continued to grow and change. Not long after, the name “Mission Arts Party” was changed to “Mission Arts & Performance Project" with the intentionof bringing the greater focus to process of bringing the arts into the community. Performance took an essential role in generating the energy of the MAPP and constituted a significant difference from what would normally be considered just another “art walk”. Throughout 2004 the MAPP expanded with Raquel De Anda and Clara Cheeves joining in as curators. By mid 2005 the organizing body of the MAPP had grown from 3-4 people to 15 (aprox.). By the end of 2005, the MAPP had succeeded in incorporating three local businesses and a number of resident garden spaces. At the end of 2005 the first radio documentary (by nathanael Johnson) was aired on KALW radio.

This information originally comes from the Red Poppy Art House (the founders of the project)
